Newfound Footage Trailer for Pokémon: Legends Arceus Leaves Fans Speculating

A new trailer for Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes on an entirely newfound footage style, and follows someone to a dangerous Pokémon encounter that leaves fans wondering.

Today on the Official Pokémon YouTube Channel, a new trailer was released. It’s maintained in a found footage style and brings an overall unsettling tone. Pokémon Legends: Arceus has quickly become one of the most anticipated Pokémon games recently, with its unique take on the franchise’s usual reused tropes. There have not been many trailers yet, but each new one only makes fans more and more excited.

This newest trailer took a whole new approach however, and rather than showcasing new gameplay footage or expanding on features, was more like an actual short film. The trailer begins with static crackling across the screen, which never goes away and keeps the audio cutting in and out throughout the video. It seems that someone discovered this camera, which is referred to as a “strange device,” and was using it to go out into the wild and film Pokémon.

The new Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer doesn’t show much, and even the small glimpses that manage to filter through the static aren’t very clear. At one point, the person taking the video is excited to see Snorunt, an ice-type Pokémon native to Sinnoh. This makes sense with the icy climate the video seems to take place in. Other than a few snowy landscapes, the quick clip of a Snorunt dashing across the snow might be the only clear shot from the trailer.

What happens next is even more chilling than the cold climate. The person filming takes the camera up onto a tree-covered hill and claims to spot something unusual. At first, they think it’s a Growlithe or a Vulpix, but they ultimately decide it is not either of those Pokémon. They describe the mysterious Pokémon as having a red tip to its tail, white fur on the top of its head and around its neck, as well as round yellow eyes. Up until the eyes, this does seem to match a Hisuian Growlithe description. Could this be the yet-to-be-revealed Hisuian Growlithe evolution?

Just after describing the Pokémon, the person filming seems to be attacked by something, letting out a “Gwaaaah!” before the footage cuts to twenty seconds of silence. Aside from a potential Hisuian Arcanine, it’s also possible that Froslass could have been the culprit. It would make sense with the Snorunt (Froslass’ previous evolution) in the area. Froslass also matches some parts of the description, with a red bow that could be mistaken for a tail, and yellow eyes. Plus, an encounter with a ghost-type would make this frightening footage even more appropriate for the Halloween season. But considering the hints are rather vague, it still could be anything.

The description of the video also claims that this footage was found in the Canalave Library, a location that could be visited in the original Pokémon Diamond & Pearl games. It’s not clear then if this footage was discovered during the much older time period of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, or if it was found during more modern times. Until more information is revealed, fans will just have to speculate.
