Fewer and Fewer People in New World - Gamers Fed Up With Amazon's Idleness
Amazon Games' unique policy is starting to bring „results”. Fewer and fewer players are spending their free time in New World.
- Players are turning away from New World; the number of active users is falling;
- It also affects the game's servers - some of them stand empty.
It is difficult to find positive messages among the recent news about New World and it is no different this time. Recently, the number of active players fell below 100,000. Such a situation occurred for the first time since the game's launch.
As UsualInitial noted on Reddit (based on data from Steam DB), December 15, the number of New World players active at any given time dropped to 98 thousand. That's down nearly 90% from the record high of 913,000 users. But that's not all, because UsualInital also drew attention to the state of the game's servers.
Well, at the time of release New World boasted a huge population on the servers, which led to the creation of hundreds of them. However, not the number itself is the problem, but again - their population, or rather the lack thereof. An example server, tested by the Reddit user, usually supports less than a hundred players, which in MMOs means that while traversing the map you won't meet practically anyone.
"Now, if these 98k peak payers (or even 48k during off peak hours) were all concentrated in a few servers, this would not be an issue, you would still find people to play with. Except, new world had hundreds of servers at launch with 2k concurrent player caps, with AGS telling players to pick medium/low pop servers to avoid queues. [...] As you can see, during off peak hours you frequently see 100 players (meanly you will barely find anyone in this MMO) and even during peak hours there are barely more than 300 players max," wrote UsualInitial
Where to look for the reason? Well, the easiest way is to look at Amazon Games' unique approach to their game. Players repeatedly complained about the problems that affected the game - waves of bots, not very interesting endgame, or a recurring economic crisis. However, such complaints seemed to fall on deaf ears in Amazon Games and the studio did not take any tangible action.
"They literally had thousands of players agreeing on what needed fixing - people agreeing, imagine that - instead, they didn't listen, did their own thing and kept screwing up after EVERY, SINGLE, PATCH.
This isn't a surprise. It's what happens when a company doesn't listen to their players," wrote TomasdeVasconcellos under the post
So as you can see, the community is not surprised, but definitely disappointed with New World's situation. It's also hard to speculate how things will gproceed for Amazon Games' production. We can only hope that the studio will finally start to listen to players and do what is necessary (the example of Riot Games confirms that it is possible).
