New World Plagued by Bots
Bots are a problem in every MMO and things are no different when it comes to New World, where the issue is becoming more acute by the day.
- New World struggles with another problem, which seem to be the numerous bots roaming the servers;
- Players who are fed up with the game's lousy bot reporting procedure opt for more mundane methods of getting rid of the trouble, such as using mobs.
New World is unlikely to win player trust players with the condition it's in. It's not only about e.g. tedious endgame,but now also about the numerous bots that appear on the servers. Players are increasingly complaining about them, although sending reports seems to have no effect.
It is known that the issue of bots does not concern only Amazon Game Studios' MMO, this problem is present in every game of this genre and there is little that can be done about it. However, New World's community seems to suffer from this problem much more than other games:
"My server is flooded. It's the most talked about thing in global. Never seen bots this bad in a game," wrote fahoot under a post about bots on Reddit.
"Seriously though, thanks for pointing this out. They were absent for a good while but now they're back in full force. Found a group of five fishing at a Rare hotspot in Cutlass Keys. Chats flooded with "gold/void Ore for sale" messages too. Did something happen to let them back in," wrote 42mir4.
These are just two sample comments. In addition to Reddit, complaints are also swarming Steam and the official forums of the game. So the problem seems to be more serious than just the simple presence of bots. Anyway, this can also be seen from such statements:
"There are bots on most major resource routes on my server. They farm starmetal, silk, hemp, iron, leather, and the orichalcum route in reek water. The silk bot the guy literally has a YouTube channel on how to write your own bot script to farm in new world. Lol he’s not even hiding it and he’s still not banned," wrote Revorne-Rev under another post about bots on Reddit.
So far Amazon doesn't seem to be responding in any way to user reports, which is why the players have taken the issue of bots into their own hands. In the comments under the posts we can read about the use of methods known from other MMOs, such as:
- Collecting groups of enemies (mobs), and then directing them at the bots (although some are "smart" enough to fight them);
- Setting up tents in the shape of the letter "u", which blocks the bots (but some of them apparently can jump over them).
So as you can see, players are doing what they can to "save" the game from bot invasion. The only mystery is how the developer will react to this situation, because New World is already losing popularity. Also not helping is the recurring problem with the game's economy, which, by the way, the bots are also contributing to.
