New Video From Cities Skylines 2 Shows Map Editor Features
An extensive map editor is coming to Cities: Skylines 2, „soon.” The developers presented its features in a new video. At first glance, the tool seems easy and intuitive to use.
Colossal Order has released a new video showcasing the upcoming changes to be made to Cities: Skylines II compared to the predecessor. This time, the developers - specifically, level designer Henri Haimakainen and technical director Damien Morello - discussed the map editor.
The developers explain why they decided to introduce one universal editor instead of several minor ones. They then demonstrate its versatile uses. In a nutshell, after loading one of the default maps, you can change basically everything on it, from the terrain, to the placement of trees and other objects, to the type of climate.
The presented editor seems - at least in the video - very easy and intuitive to use. Of course, the created maps will be able to be shared with the community.
When will this tool be made available in the game? That, unfortunately, we don't know yet. At the end of the video, there is only information that the editing tools will come to Cities: Skylines II "soon."
Judging by the comments on YouTube, players seem pleased with what Colossal Order has demonstrated and can't wait to start creating their own maps. In doing so, they suggest the developers not to forget to implement appropriate keyboard shortcuts.
In addition, the words of some players bring comfort to the developers, encouraging them to develop the game in peace, not minding the opinions of the general community. The latter are still not very favorable - the percentage of positive reviews on Steam is "only" 56% (based on more than 25 thousand reviews). However, it is worth noting that less than a week ago it was 8 percentage points lower (with more than 12 thousand reviews).
Cities: Skylines II is available only on PC (including in PC Game Pass). A version of the game dedicated to PS5 and XSX/S is scheduled to be released in spring 2024.
