New Star Wars Trilogy According to Lucas: Darth Maul Instead of Kylo Ren
One of the recently published books about Star Wars featured an interview with George Lucas, the father of the entire franchise. The author shared his old plans for the latest Star Wars movie trilogy.
Contrary to appearances, quite a lot is going on recently around the universe of Star Wars, we just need to know where to look for interesting content. Apart from the second season of The Mandalorian, two books have recently debuted on the market. We wrote about one of them already in October, namely Star Wars: Fascinating Facts edited by Pablo Hidalgo. The second one is called Star Wars Archives. It was written by Paul Duncan, and he divided it into individual volumes - one dealing with the original trilogy, and one dealing with its three prequels.
Such a treasure trove of behind-the-scenes, insider knowledge enabled inquisitive readers to find out about the latest Star Wars movies even before J.J. Abrams and his crew took up the task. Based on an interview with George Lucas, Paul Duncan told about his initial plans for the third Star Wars movie trilogy (via Culture Crave).
The biggest difference compared to what we got is the identity of the main antagonist. Even before Kylo Ren, the main villains were to be Darth Maul and his apprentice Darth Talon(Darth Vader's spiritual successor). All fans demanding the return of the demonic Sith may be disappointed that it didn't happen in the end. At least now we know that this was Lucas' original plan.
The plot of the trilogy also involved classic characters. Leia was to take up the post of Grand Chancellor, while at the same time turning out to be the true Chosen One, as told by the Jedi prophecies. Luke Skywalker also played a very interesting role in this whole puzzle, because Lucas wanted him to rebuild the Jedi Order based on the several dozen survivors after the issue of Order 66. We don't know more at this point, because we don't have the book either, but we are sure that there are many more delicacies in it, completely changing our old expectations of the new trilogy.
