New Pokemon Grafaiai Revealed in Scarlet & Violet Trailer
In a new trailer styled to look like a nature documentary, the Poison Monkey Pokemon, Grafaiai, latest addition to the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet roster, was revealed.
In a brand new, highly stylized, trailer, The Official Pokemon Company revealed Grafaiai, a brand new Pokemon that will appear in the upcoming Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet games. The trailer was similar to a nature documentary, following the narration of an explorer searching for this rare Pokemon. Cameras are set up around strange colorful markings and after some time Grafaiai reveals itself, and eventually destroys the cameras.
The name Grafaiai comes from a combination of the word “Graffiti” and the animal this Pokemon is based on, the Madagascan lemur, the Aye-Aye. Grafaiai uses its long finger and its poison saliva to draw strange patterns on trees that attract and trap bugs. It is also described as a nocturnal loner who often gets caught up in territorial disputes.
This new Pokemon, Grafaiai has the Poison and Normal typing, which is a never-before-seen type combination. This makes it only weak to Psychic and Ground type attacks, with an immunity to Ghost. It was also revealed to have the abilities Poison Touch and Unburden. Currently it’s not clear whether Grafaiai will evolve.
Grafaiai is not the only artist Pokemon so far, Smeargle was introduced in Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver games and is unique in its ability to learn nearly every move through its signature move, Sketch. It doesn’t seem likely that Grafaiai would follow this same route and take away what makes Smeargle special, but it is an interesting thought.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release for the Nintendo Switch on November 18th. What do you think about this new Pokemon, Grafaiai? Are you looking forward to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet? Let us know in the comments below!
