New MechWarrior in the Pipeline; MW5 Fans Will be Pleased
A new game from the BattleTech universe is already in the pipeline. Information about the upcoming game was revealed by the CEO of Piranha Games, in a podcast on YouTube.
Piranha Games CEO Russ Bullock appeared on the NoGutsNoGalaxy podcast, providing a lot of interesting information about the studio's current activities.
The most important of these was the news that Piranha Games is developing a new MechWarrior game, set in the BattleTech universe. The game, according to Bullock, is to be similar to the fifth installment of the series, subtitled Mercenaries, and technologically based on it.
At the same time, the CEO responds to concerns and explains that upcoming MechWarrior will be a fully standalone game, and not just a simple DLC for its predecessor.
It is also known that the upcoming MechWarrior installment will focus on single player/co-op mode. As Bullock said in the podcast, the developers are saving the sequel to MechWarrior Online for later - as long as they renew the license, which expires in 2025.
Interestingly, we will still have to wait for the official reveal of the game - the planned, but still subject to change, date for Piranha Games' reveal is the end of summer or autumn 2023.
We also learned from the podcast that the new MechWarrior is heading to "all platforms," meaning by implication PC and consoles (presumably meaning both old and current- gen consoles).
For the uninitiated - MechWarrior is a video game series based on the tabletop RPG of the same name. It is part of the universe created in 1984 by FASA Corporation, called BattleTech. In games of this series we sit at the helm of powerful mechs and take part in military operations.
