New Star Wars: Outlaws Gameplay Unsettled Players
A 10-minute gameplay of Star Wars: Outlaws aroused mixed feelings among gamers. After all, the fragments of gameplay shown on it seem severely underdeveloped, and there are only six weeks left until the release.
Ubisoft and IGN have unveiled new gameplay footage of Star Wars: Outlaws, an action game set in an open world, being developed by Massive, the studio famous for Tom Clancy’s The Division series.
The material lasts ten minutes. Overall, it looks good, but the game build shown here seems very unfinished, which is pointed out by many commentators on YouTube. It wouldn't be a cause for concern if the title was set to be released next year. Star Wars: Outlaws is set to premiere in just six weeks, so what is visible in this video is understandably concerning.
Shoots a blaster multiple times and the enemy dies while screaming.
Other enemies: "Is someone there?"
6:18. Hilarious explosion.
The game itself seems cool but... doesn't it look awfully unpolished for something coming out in August?
Poor management and an overload of projects?
Tom Henderson, a well-known insider, thinks that the cause could be inadequate team management at Ubisoft. Last year's Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, also developed by Massive studio debuted in good technical condition. We may wonder whether the multitude of large projects is to blame here.
Releasing two major open-world games within nine months could be an exaggeration for one team. Especially since many other Ubisoft studios are currently working on the much more important Assassin's Creed: Shadows and they may simply not have the processing capacity to help Massive with Star Wars: Outlaws as much as might be expected.
Of course, all of this is just speculation. The IGN material may come from an older version of the game, and the devs will probably do everything to bring the title to the appropriate level before the premiere. We will likely have the opportunity to try out the playable version during the gamescom event in August (where Ubisoft will be one of the active exhibitors), giving us a chance to see how the game looks right before its release. It also cannot be ruled out that Ubisoft will decide to delay the game's release if necessary.
Chases as a way of having fun
Staying on the topic of Star Wars: Outlaws, it's worth mentioning that the developers talked a bit about the Wanted system, which is modeled on the Grand Theft Auto series, within which our actions will increasingly attract the attention of the Empire or local Syndicates. This will cause more powerful units to start following our trail.
In GTA players often organize their own fun, checking how long they can stay alive with five stars on their account. In Star Wars: Outlaws devs also want to encourage players to take on such challenges.
Each planet will have a different level of Empire and Syndicate forces stationed on it, so they will offer different experiences at the maximum level of the chase (which in the case of this game will be equivalent to six stars). Such a bad reputation will persist for a long time, but the player will also have ways to diminish it, such as acquiring the data desired by the Syndicates or engaging in bribery.
We will also be provided with various tools and methods to escape from serious threats while being pursued. As the developers from Massive explain, this entire system was designed to become a toy for the player.
Star Wars: Outlaws is coming to PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5. The game will be released on August 30 this year.
