25 Years of Waiting for New Blade Runner May Soon be Over
We can not complain about the overabundance of games in the universe of Blade Runner. Fortunately, developers from Switzerland have reportedly just started working on a new game set in the dark universe created by Philip K. Dick.
- According to a leak, 110 Industries has acquired the rights to create a Blade Runner game. The release would take place in 2025 at the earliest;
- The game may be worked upon by co-creators of Ninja Gaiden and the founder of EA and 3DO.
According to sources reached by Try Hard Guides, the British publisher 110 Industries has just acquired the rights to create a video game set in the universe of Blade Runner. The title will be created in a newly opened studio located in Switzerland and may debut around 2025 (via THG).
Not much is known about the possible new Blade Runner game
Announcement of Blade Runner rights acquisition was said to have taken place behind closed doors in the Swiss studio and take the form of a short trailer which is to be presented to the wider audience in the near future. The game itself remains a mystery for now. Neither the target platforms nor its genre are known, but looking at 110 Industries' other projects - such as Wanted: Dead, Red Goes Faster or Vengeance Is Mine - one might suspect that it's more of a console and PC title, rather than a mobile game.
110 Industries doesn't have an established name on the market yet, but among the developers working there you can find people who have previously worked on Ninja Gaiden games as well as the founder of Electronic Arts and 3DO, Trip Hawkins. 110 Industries has also been linked to an alleged sequel to Shenmue III, which is rumored to be in production.
Fans of Blade Runner don't have much to choose from at the moment. In fact, we can only play the point-and-click adventure game Blade Runner from 1997, created by Westwood Studios, whose remastered version - Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition - is being prepared (and delayed) by the relatively famous Nightdive Studios.
Another game set in the dystopian, cyberpunk world of Philip K. Dick's novel would be really welcome. Too bad we'll have to wait at least three years for it - if this leak is even true, of course.
