Netflix Like Classic TV as Direct Service Begins Testing
Netflix unexpectedly started testing the Direct service, which is reminiscent of a traditional TV channel. For now it operates in one country.
Netflix madea surprising decision and, beginning with November 5, started testing its first linear Direct channel, which brings to mind classic TV. The service, which was launched free of charge, is currently available only to subscribers of the streaming platform in France. It offers users access to a predefined schedule so they can feel like watching a classic TV channel.
The advantage of streaming platforms is the possibility to choose what we want to watch at the moment. However, Netflix has decided to meet the needs of users who do not want to waste time on searching for interesting content, are just beginning to interact with this service or are used to television. In large part, this may be the case for the elderly, who do not necessarily know how to deal with the service and the crowd of productions recommended by Netflix. Direct may be a good solution for them. The choice of France wasn't accidental, because television in this country enjoys unflagging interest - many viewers are satisfied with a predetermined program.
Netflix Direct is only available from a web browser and offers only European films and series. In France, the streaming platform is used by around 9 million users, but for the time being only a fraction of all subscribers in the country have access to the linear channel. Finally, for the time being, we are talking about an experiment to collect data. In December Netflix Direct will reach a wider audience, but without plans to expand into other markets.
