MultiVersus Now in Open Beta; Thousands of Players Beat Batman With Shaggy
As of yesterday, MultiVersus can be played for free by anyone willing to do so. The fighting game from Warner Bros. has gone into open beta. At the same time, it entered the ranks of the 10 most popular games on Steam.
July 19 marked the launch of early access to MultiVersus on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Even then the game turned out to be a Steam hit. Not everyone was able to try it out, but that didn't detract from its popularity. Now the game can be checked out by anyone willing to play - it can be downloaded for free from Epic Games Store, Steam or console platforms (PS Store/Microsoft Store). In the open beta, offered since yesterday on the same platforms as early access, you can play with a dozen characters on different themed maps in several modes.
Beat Superman as Shaggy
Rules of MultiVersus are very simple - the goal is to beat your opponents so as to throw them out of the arena. You can play as DC superheroes or characters from cartoons, among others Looney tunes. However, not everyone will like the fact that most characters have to be purchased. Already during early access it was possible to purchase Founder's Packs, which are not cheap at all (the most expensive version costs nearly $100!). Microtransactions are one of the pains of the theoretically free MultiVersus.
Several gameplay modes are available in the open beta - 2 vs. 2, 1 vs. 1, 4-player arena battle (whoever kicks out the most characters wins), co-op vs. AI or local play. In addition, the game supports both cross-play and cross-progress. So we can play a few rounds on the PC and then return to the game on the console without losing the progress we've made.
MultiVersus player activity on Steam remains at 60-70 thousand people at the same time. In turn, a record was set last night - it reached more than 140 thousand concurrent users. This enables MultiVersus to remain on the list of the 10 most popular games on Steam. The developers have not stated how long the open beta will last and when the full version of the game will be released.
More characters - Rick and Morty coming!
For the moment MultiVersus offers 17 playable characters, of which only four are available for free, and the rest will have to be unlocked in the course of the game. Each character can be acquired with gold coins (which we collect for playing matches) or bought with the special currency, Gleamium. Some characters are available after completing the tutorial. Below we list all the characters available at this point.
