Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is About 'Accurate Flight Operations' Not Game-like Missions
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will not be a video game with typical missions. The developers shared information about the game at the FlightSimExpo show.
During this year's Xbox Games Showcase many new games were unveiled, including some unexpected ones. One of them was a new installment of the flight simulator, the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The first trailer for this title may have raised many questions as to what it will actually be - an expansion of the 2020 version, or perhaps a game with expanded missions? On the occasion of the recent FlightSimExpo the developers shared details about the project.
The head of the MSFS brand, Jorg Neumann, stated that MSFS 2024 will be "the biggest expansion in the history of flight simulators." So it's not an expansion, but it's not a game either. Neumann said:
"We did surveys on several things, and one of the aspects among those that players wanted was more things to do. We said to ourselves 'okay, fine, let's do something like that.' But it [MSFS - editor's note] is not a game. So we don't make typical game-like missions. What we do is accurate aerial operations. We work with many organizations around the world that do such things - that do firefighting, search and rescue."
Despite the above words, the presence of various special vehicles in MSFS 2024 means a number of activities associated with them that we will be able to undertake. They just won't look like "typical missions" in other games.
In addition, it was announced during FlightSimExpo that the new installment of the flight simulator will require downloading only the necessary files - most of the content is to be in the cloud. This is good news for those who were deterred by the required amount of free disk space when installing MSFS 2020 (the basic version is about 150 GB).
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will offer a new physics and aerodynamics engine. In addition, the world will be more realistic - auroras or herds of animals are to appear, and the movement of vehicles on the ground will also be improved.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will debut next year on Xbox Series X/S and PCs. The game will hit the Xbox/PC Game Pass at the same time.
