Update

Early access to Mortal Kombat 1, which launched at 7 p.m. CET yesterday, was quite a success, at least from Steam perspective. On Valve's platform, the game reached 26,633 concurrent players, which can be considered a very good result. Note that the game is also available on consoles. The official release will take place on September 19.

Original news (September 14)

In just a few days, players will be able to join the fight in Mortal Kombat 1 - a reboot of the cult fighting game series. The first, very positive reviews of the game have appeared online, which bodes well ahead of Early Access, which begins today, and the later launch itself.

Mortal Kombat 1 - there are the first reviews

So far ratings for Mortal Kombat 1 have been issued by seven editors. The highest rating for the game published by Warner Bros. Games was 10/10, while the lowest was 3.5/5.

  1. ScreenRant - 3.5/5
  2. VGA247 - 4/5
  3. VGC - 5/5
  4. Videogamer - 9/10
  5. COGonnected - 90/100

On Metacritic the PlayStation 5 version of the game currently has an average rating of 85/100. Starting tomorrow, gamers will also start adding their ratings.

Let's mention that for quite some time NetherRealm Studios has been providing us with promotional materials for the game, in which you can see the refreshed look of well-known fighters. IGN editors have provided also a video showing the initial "fatality" of these characters - it may contain spoilers, so if you want to avoid seeing the murderous combinations before the release, it's better not to watch it..

Mortal Kombat 1 - early access starts today

If you bought Mortal Kombat 1's premium or collector's edition, you will start your adventure with the game today. Early Access will start at 7 p.m. CET / 10 a.m. PST.

Let's point out - the devs have already announced the first Kombat Pack, which will introduce, among others, Omni-Man from Invincible, Peacemaker from the DC universe or Homelander from The Boys. In addition, another guest will be Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Official release of Mortal Kombat 1 will take place on September 19. The game will be available on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

Hot time for fighting game fans

It can be said that the true golden era of fighting games has arrived. Earlier on we got Street Fighter 6, which also received very good reviews (the average from reviewers for the PS5 version on Metacritic is 92/100). Now comes Mortal Kombat 1, followed by Tekken 8 (January 2024).

Of course, these are the most talked-about fighting games premiering this year. Fans of the genre can still expect such titles as Project L, King of Fighters XIII for PS4 and Switch, or Granblue Fantasy: Versus Rising.
