Minecraft Players Recreated LotR's Edoras

Players have once again taken it upon themselves to recreate a great world from literature using Minecraft. This time they focused on Rohan, based on its vision in Lord of the Rings.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Minecraft players have built Rohan from Tolkien's books;
  • The map is available on an open server;
  • It's part of a larger project to recreate the entire Middle-earth.

Rohan, one of the lands featured in J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy books, was recreated in Minecraft. It included the capital of the region, Edoras, and the surrounding areas called Riddermark. The players focused not only for recreating the city, but also on shaping the terrain to match the author's vision. It was the literary original that was most important to the authors. Although the vision of Edoras is largely consistent with what we can see in Peter Jackson's movie trilogy, the world created by the players goes far beyond it. Apart from the capital and the surrounding areas, they also built the settlement of Aldburg, which appears only in Tolkien's books.

The locations are part of a larger project called Minecraft Middle Earth. Within it, the authors are trying to recreate iconic landmarks of Middle Earth. Together they make up a large map, which is available on the server for all players. In addition to Rohan, it features such great projects as Minas Tirith or Isengard. From the beginning, the authors also focus on building less popular locations from Tolkien's visio. On the server we can visit places such as various cities of Southern Gondor. Address of the server can be found on the project's official website.
