Microsoft Works on Improving Game Performance on XSX / S
Microsoft has advertised Xbox Series X as the most powerful console in the world, but it turns out that current it doesn't fulfill this promise. Benchmarks in some games are worse than on PlayStation 5 and the Redmond giant confirms this and points out that work has already begun on improving the performance of selected titles.
Since the beginning of the month Digital Foundry has been running a series of tests to compare game performance between Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. In individual titles such as Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition and DiRT 5, Sony's console performs better. In a statement for The Verge, Microsoft confirmed the test results and promised that performance issues will be resolved as soon as the developers become fully acquainted with the capabilities of Xbox Series X|S:
"We are aware of performance issues in a handful of optimized titles on Xbox Series X|S and are actively working with our partners to identify and resolve the issues to ensure an optimal experience. As we begin a new console generation, our partners are just now scratching the surface of what next-gen consoles can do and minor bug fixes are expected as they learn how to take full advantage of our new platform. We are eager to continue working with developers to further explore the capability of Xbox Series X|S in the future."
Competition had a head start on Xbox Series X|S
But how does Microsoft explain PlayStation 5's advantage over Xbox Series X|S? The reason pointed to by the developers of Xbox is the fact that they sent out the console's devkits much later than Sony. This has enabled game developers to become more familiar with PlayStation 5 and thus better optimize specific titles for that platform. Meanwhile, work is already underway to improve performance in games on Microsoft's console, and it will take several months to even a year to fully heal the wounds of Xbox Series X|S.
