Microsoft Supports GOG Galaxy 2.0, Talks With Epic Games Store Are Underway
GOG Galaxy 2.0, the new GOG.com digital distribution platform, has been officially supported by Microsoft. Talks about potential cooperation with owners of other clients are still in progress.
In recent years, successive digital distribution platforms have been growing like mushrooms after the rain. Valve, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Bethesda Softworks, CD Projekt have already launched their services, and recently Epic Games joined this group in a quite controversial atmosphere. Players start to complain about such phenomenon cause they have to juggle several different clients in order to play in different productions. The answer to this situation is GOG Galaxy 2.0 - an improved and expanded version of the already known application, which will offer unprecedented integration with other platforms and consoles. We have known about it since May, but now its mission to bring all its customers together in one place has gained a powerful ally.
On the German GameStar portal there is information that support for GOG Galaxy 2.0 was provided by Microsoft, which we confirmed in an interview with a gog.com representative. This means that services such as Xbox Game Pass on PC will probably be supported by the new platform, which will also allow chatting with Xbox users. You can expect to share information about how long you've been playing or what you've achieved in each title. Giant from Redmond is so far the only company that has officially joined forces with GOG Galaxy 2.0, but the developers are trying hard to recruit new customers. One of them is Epic Games, responsible for the Epic Games Store, whose boss, Tim Sweeney, revealed through Twitter that discussions on the subject are ongoing and he is enthusiastic about integration between platforms.
GOG Galaxy 2.0 is not, of course, the only application that tries to collect the games scattered among different clients in one huge library. A similar feature is offered by free Playnite, but it is a tool with many limitations. In fact, this program only allows you to catalog your titles, but to enable them you still need to run a specific platform. GOG Galaxy 2.0 may prove to be a much more reasonable alternative, as it will offer a more compact application, not deprived of access to basic functions, by official support of owners of other clients.
GOG Galexy 2.0 will allow us to create a single library of games from all digital distribution platforms, install and download titles wherever they are released, and communicate with console players and other customers. Unfortunately, it is still unknown when GOG Galaxy 2.0 will be available for the wider public - for now it is waiting for the phase of closed beta-tests. The previous impressions of people who had the opportunity to see the platform "in action", however, are almost exclusively positive, which raises great hopes for the future.
