Microsoft Plans Further Console Models After Xbox Series X/S
Phil Spencer has no intention to stop developing new consoles. According to the head of the Xbox department, the increasingly popular streaming services will not make Microsoft resign from working on new Xbox models in the coming years. This means that XSX and XSS will have successors.
Phil Spencer during his appearance in Yahoo! Finance decided to talk about the future of game streaming and its impact on the industry. Head of Xbox said that Microsoft has no intention of giving up working on new console models. The growing popularity of services such as xCloud and Google Stadia is not expected to affect hardware development in the coming years. According to Spencer, both of these segments will not mutually limit eachother's technological progress. Thus, Xboxes Series X and S will see successors.
"In terms of future hardware, absolutely, I think we're going to see more console hardware down the road. Just like in video, just like in music, it's not that streaming has cut off device innovation. I think we'll continue to see that, and that's absolutely what we're planning for."
We may not have to wait until the tenth generation of consoles for a confirmation of Spencer's words. It is worth remembering that this month there were already rumors about the third version of the latest Xbox. It is to be developed under the name Project Edinburg and will eventually be marketed as Xbox Series V.
