Microsoft Insists Minecraft Players Migrate Their Accounts
Minecraft players who have so far been using a Mojang account will lose the ability to play after March 10. Microsoft is increasingly calling for migration of accounts.
Starting March 10, only those with a Microsoft account will be able to play Minecraft: Java Edition. The announcement was shared by devs on the game's official blog. The decision was justified, among others, by the increased (compared to Mojang accounts) security of users.
Transferring your account is just a technical matter
The entry published yesterday can be treated as a kind of reminder for players who delayed the decision to transfer their accounts. Why does Microsoft encourage and now even, in a way, forces to take such an action? Here are the reasons:
- Enhanced account security with two-factor authentication.
- Players will have access to Minecraft: Java Edition, Minecraft: Dungeons and other titles in one place.
- Improved parental control, which will positively affect the safety of children.
- Ability to block chat rooms and invitations.
If players don't migrate from their Mojang account to Microsoft's by March 10 then nothing is lost. Of course, they won't be able to access the game, but the account transfer option itself still remains and will be waiting to be used.
Microsoft has previously insisted that the players migrate
Moving from Mojang accounts to those of Microsoft is not a sudden invention. The first news about the mandatory migration, although then without a shadow of blocking the ability to play, appeared in 2020.
- All profile data, world saves, and even modifications remained intact when transferring to a Microsoft account.
- Microsoft provides a cape reward for account transfer.
- The transfer of accounts took place gradually, due to the large number of players.
- After a successful "migration" the Mojang account was no longer needed.
- Also, players who own Minecraft Legacy were able to seamlessly transfer their accounts.
