Microsoft Fights Back in UK; Company Appeals CMA's Decision
Microsoft has appealed CMA's decision literally at the last moment. The fight on British soil over the merger with Activision continues.
Immediately after the unfavorable verdict of the British CMA, Microsoft and Activision representatives declared that they would appeal the decision. They did so, too.
As reported by Bloomberg, a Microsoft spokesman has filed a formal appeal to the CMA's verdict on the gaming giants' merger, which has dragged on for more than a year. This came on the last date allowed, which was yesterday.
This means that the case will be referred to the Competition Appeals Tribunal (CAT), which will decide whether the CMA's opinion will be upheld.
- According to experts, receiving a favorable review of a CAT appeal is generally rare.
- However, the world has heard information that the Redmond giant is doing its best to succeed, even going so far as to hire a former lawyer for Queen Elizabeth II.
- Last week, the Chinese government joined the 37 previously declared authorities supporting Activision's purchase, further tipping the scales of global support.
In the worst case scenario we will have to wait up to nine months for a final CAT ruling, However, it is safe to assume that neither side in the conflict will give up until the last minute.
