What About Dubbing in Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake? Konami Explains
Konami has clarified the matter of dubbing in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which fans have been pondering since it was announced at the PlayStation Showcase.
Announcement of the return of the third Metal Gear Solid was received enthusiastically. Nevertheless, fans quickly cooled down and began to wonder how much of the original would be retained in Delta.
Apparently, quite a lot, because Konami won't even re-record the dialogues from Snake Eater. This was confirmed by Tommy Williams, responsible for community relations at Konami America, in an interview with The Verge.
Already with the announcement of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater it was mentioned that the game would see the return of "original character voices." Not much later it was specified (via Twitter), that the story and character voices will remain unchanged compared to the original. However, fans were still unsure whether this meant the return of the former voice actors or simply the use of the original recordings.
It must be admitted that the former option seemed unlikely after almost two decades. True, it wouldn't be the first time, but such ploys usually work well in fan projects (the likes of the recent animation featuring a forgotten rival to Donkey Kong).
It should also be noted that the last twenty years have thinned the ranks of actors who have provided voices for the characters of MGS 3 in the Japanese version (the deceased include Kazumi Tanaka, Takeshi Aono and Keiji Fujiwara). So Konami would have had to use the old voices anyway, or take the time to find a suitable replacement.
In truth, most MGS fans are not worried about this information. Instead, there are speculations (via Reddit) that Konami made the decision to keep the original story and voices so as not to anger the fans. After all, those fans are highly annoyed anyway with Hideo Kojima leving the company and the following release of the disastrously received spin-off as the only new installment in the series in recent years (via Metacritic).
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is heading to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The release date remains unknown.
