Witcher 4 Medallion proves that Ciri belongs to School of the Lynx
Have you looked at Ciri’s medallion from The Witcher 4 trailer? We have and it does not depict a wolf but a lynx.
The Game Awards is over. We had a chance to see a lot of interesting games. Of course, among the most anticipated trailers was the one featuring The Witcher 4. We officially learned who will replace Geralt – Ciri. To be honest, we have known about it for 4 years. She is not a new character. Even if you have not read books, you should remember her from The Witcher 3. Lion Cub of Cintra, as she is also called, is a witcher now. However, she does not follow Geralts’ footsteps and is not a School of the Wolf member. Instead, it seems that she picked the Lynx path. What is the School of the Lynx then? It was made by fans.
School of the Lynx in the Witcher universe
Let’s go back in time a little bit, to March 2022. The time when the first promotional image for The Witcher 4 was released - it was a medallion in the snow. Already then, people speculated that it could not be an insignia of the School of the Wolf. A few days later, it was confirmed, the medallion was from the School of the Lynx.
What is this school, though? It was founded by some well-known characters like Lambert and Keira Metz. Its story is described in detail on the wiki. However, the interesting part is that this piece of lore is fully created by fans. It was not canonical, at least until The Witcher 4 announcement. Even now we cannot be sure how much of the lore from the wiki will be incorporated into the game and what part of it will be used.
Why Ciri did not choose the School of the Wolf?

After the recent The Witcher 4 trailer, it is certain that between The Witcher 3 and 4, Ciri became a witcher herself by undertaking Trial of the Grasses. How do we know that? She wears clothes like a witcher, drinks elixirs like one and has “unique” eyes. Moreover, developers also confirmed that in their interview for IGN. However, she does not wear the medallion from the School of the Wolf. Instead, she has a Lynx image on her chest. Why is that?

The School of the Wolf was in bad shape even before The Witcher 3. It gets even worse in the game, as the death of Vesemir is a gigantic blow to the guild. It is likely that without him, the group lost its integrity. Moreover, to create new witchers, proper equipment and knowledge are required. As you can see, obstacles are piling up.
It is not the end, though. It is hard to believe that Geralt was happy about Ciri becoming a witcher fully. Of course, one of the endings depicts Lion Cub of Cintra as a companion of the White Wolf. However, the old warrior might not like the idea of her going through the Trial of the Grasses, as it is highly dangerous and often ends with a death of the person.
Taking the above into consideration, picking the School of Lynx is a sound idea. Moreover, according to lore, it is a relatively recent creation. It seems like a good point to start our fresh adventure with Ciri and distance ourselves from Geralt – new protagonist, new beginning, new school.
