MechWarrior 5: Clans Promises Powerful Mechs and Poignant Storyline in Cult Series' Return. Check out New Gameplays
Developers from Piranha Games Studio finally shared specific footage of MechWarrior 5: Clans. Furthermore, we learned many new details about the upcoming title.
Piranha Games studio, present at this year's GDC fair, presented the first fragments of the game MechWarrior 5: Clans. Players will be thrown into the midst of a clan invasion in the next installment of this 35-year-old series, a familiar scenario for every fan of the franchise.
While atmospheric, the above material doesn't fully depict what the devs have prepared for us. Luckily, Piranha Games studio presented a demo of the title to a group of industry journalists during the trade fair. These included, among others: IGN editors who posted extensive gameplay from MechWarrior 5: Clans.
As you can observe in both materials, the game at first glance resembles MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries released in 2019. In the case of Clans, however, we are dealing with a much more extensive story, which should appeal to both long-time fans of the series and people who are just starting their adventure with BattleTech.
Furthermore, the developers focused on the tactical elements of the game. Players can easily issue commands to their remaining companions using the bird's eye view option. Piranha Games studio has also prepared a cooperative gameplay mode for up to four friends, known from Mercenaries.
Combat is just as weighty and satisfying as ever -- the titular mechs feel heavy, physical, and extremely formidable, as you wade across the landscape and duke it out with robotic opponents. New customization and upgrade options make building and personalizing your mech more in-depth than before, and if you're playing by yourself, the intuitive Battlegrid system, which shifts the action to a simplified, bird's-eye view, so you can easily locate and command your AI comrades, is a stroke of genius -- the editors of the PCGamesN site shared their impressions from the demo.
MechWarrior 5: Clans campaign director Russ Bullock assured that the studio has improved the controller based controls.
Over the last ten years we've made significant strides in making MechWarrior more accessible. For the first time ever in Clans, it's as easily controlled with a controller as with a mouse and keyboard. That, in conjunction with the great narration, storytelling, and human characters mean this could be the most broad-reaching MechWarrior game we've ever made -- explained the developer.
Let's remind that MechWarrior 5: Clans was announced in September last year. Unfortunately, the exact release date of the game hasn't yet been announced. The release is scheduled for 2024; that's all that is known. The game will hit PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
