Mass Effect Legendary Edition Devs Believe the Ending Will be Well Received
The developers of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, coming out tomorrow, have admitted that while the trilogy's ending will remain the same, players may perceive it differently now than they did in 2012.
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will launch tomorrow. The players will get a chance to relive (or experience for the first time) Commander Shepard's story in visual quality worthy of 2021. As befits a remaster - not a remake - the story in all installment will remain the same. This includes the infamous ending of Mass Effect 3, disliked so much by the fans that BioWare had to release Expanded Edition DLC (included in the compilation) to fix it. While waiting for the release of Legendary Edition, the developers are hoping that this time the players will perceive the finale of the trilogy differently.
Such an optimistic assumption was expressed by the game's director, Mac Walters. In his opinion, fans' feelings may be influenced by the fact that they will play the three installments of Mass Effect in quick succession, so they'll see them as a whole. 'If their opinion doesn't change, that's fine,' Walters admitted (via CNET). The dev also added that the perception of the story from the project director's point of view is very different, but he hopes that thanks to Legendary Edition, the players will be able to look at the trilogy through his eyes.
Kevin Meek, BioWare's lead environment designer, is of a similar opinion. He noted that after nine years not only the ending, but also the whole story will probably 'hit people in a different way' (via CNET).
To what extent Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will fulfill the announcements of both men, we'll be able to find out beginning with tomorrow. Before the game reaches our hands, you can take a look at a number of screenshots, which we attached to this message. They highlight the aforementioned mod-inspired visual improvements and give us a taste of what awaits us. And if static images are not enough for you, watch the video below.
The refreshed trilogy will be released on PC, PS4 and XONE, and through backward compatibility also on PS5 and XSX|S (it will also be available on EA Play Pro subscription). You can start downloading it now and you probably should, as the whole thing weighs quite a bit. Tomorrow you'll just download the day 1 patch and you'll be ready to defend the galaxy. And during the download you can check out the free extras provided by Electronic Arts.
