Marvel's Avengers Update Will Add Even More Grind
Developers from Crystal Dynamics outlined the changes that will come to the experience system and the acquisition of cosmetic items in Marvel's Avengers.
IN A NUTSHELL:
- After the update scheduled for March 18, characters in Marvel's Avengers will progress more slowly;
- Developers also want to modify the system of cosmetic items - we'll acquire them mainly by spending the so-called Units.
Crystal Dynamics announced changes to the progression system in Marvel's Avengers, schedule to appear with the update that will add Hawkeye to the game. After the patch's release, heroes will progress more slowly than they do now, which will obviously translate into the rate of acquiring skill points.
"The current XP “curve” isn’t really a curve at all. In most RPGs, the amount of XP you need to level up increases as you gain levels in a curve, but our system is a straight line. This has led to pacing issues, such as skill points currently being rewarded too fast, which may be confusing and overwhelming to newer players. We want each decision to invest in a skill or Heroic to be more meaningful." reads the blog note.
There will also be changes to the cosmetic item system. The developers want to make their acquisition less random - instead, players will get the opportunity to work for specific, interesting skins or emotes. Things that could be obtained by completing missions and drops from Strongboxes will be purchased in stores by paying with so-called Units (in-game currency). This will be the only way to get these items.
Modifications to the experience system will come into effect on March 18, when also the rebuilding of the cosmetic items system will begin. However, in the latter case, we will have to wait a bit for all the effects of the developers' work (it was not specified how long exactly).
