Marvel Rivals is an upcoming hero shooter with popular heroes from Marvel universe. No wonder that many gamers and movie enthusiasts wait for its release. The game will be available December 6 at 0:00 UTC. However, not for all players, but for those who own a proper PC or consoles from the current generation Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5. What about others, though? Many people have older devices like PS4, Xbox One or Switch. Will they be able to play? Let’s find out.

Marvel Rivals – PS4, Switch and Xbox One Release Explained

If you want to play Marvel Rivals on the previous generation consoles, we have bad news for you. Some time ago Pocket Tactics interviewed Marvel Rivals director Thaddeus Sasser. Among other things, the developer stated that there is no ongoing discussion regarding handheld version, and they do not plan to release the game on Switch. Of course, mobile ports can also be omitted in this case.

While Xbox One and PS4 were not mentioned, we can guess that their fate is the same as Switch. The reason for the absence of the game from mobile devices is their lack of power according to the article, so technical difficulties. It means that we can extrapolate this argumentation on previous generation of consoles. They are probably too outdated for developers.

While it is a hard pill to swallow, 9th generation of consoles began in 2020. At the beginning developers were actively supporting both generations, as many people did not have time to switch devices, especially due to big shortages of new consoles. Nowadays situation is different, though. More and more games does not support PS4, Xbox One and Switch. Sadly, the number will grow with time and we have to be prepared for that.
