Marvel Rivals is a multiplayer shooter based on the comic book license from Marvel Entertainment. The development and release of this game was handled by the Chinese producer NetEase, which has in its portfolio such projects as Diablo Immortal, Knives Out, and the thematically related Marvel Super War. The game is distributed in a free-to-play model with microtransactions.
Plot
As a result of the conflict that occurred between Doctor Doom and his 2099 version, the world found itself on the brink of destruction. Numerous universes collided with each other, leading to the creation of new universes and the emergence of previously unseen cataclysms.
At this point, superheroes and supervillains from different worlds step in to defeat both versions of Doctor Doom before one of them gains the upper hand to take control of all the worlds. While some heroes and anti-heroes form unexpected alliances, others equally unexpectedly oppose each other.
Mechanics
In Marvel Rivals we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). The game gives us a wide range of characters known from Marvel comics and their adaptations. The discussion includes heroes and villains from series such as Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy or even X-Men. Each of them possesses unique combat skills, preferred weapons (although those who do not use ranged weapons can only fight in close combat), as well as an individual set of strengths and weaknesses.
We enter battlefields where two six-person teams face each other. Skirmishes take place on various destructible arenas - starting from Asgard, ending with a futuristic version of Tokyo from 2099. If we want to be successful, we must cooperate with other team members, coordinating our actions, as well as launching joint attacks and merging them into spectacular combos. For example, Rocket can ride on the back of Groot, while Hulk can release gamma energy and charge Iron Man's armor with it.
Game modes
Marvel Rivals offers only multiplayer gameplay requiring an Internet connection.
