Manor Lords Dev With Big Plans for His Strategy Game; They Even Include Castles and Siege Machines
The developer of Manor Lords has plans to add siege machines and castles to his game. He considers them an essential part of that period.
Manor Lords has already achieved great success, but its developer - Grzegorz Styczen - doesn't intend to rest on his laurels. He recently shared some of his plans for the game's development, which even include castles and siege mechanics.
Castle sieges
As you know, Manor Lords is primarily a city builder focused on expanding your own estates, not on fighting and conquest. The deve himself pointed out before the premiere that his game would not be in competition with series like Total War or Age of Empires.
This doesn't imply that the game lacks battles entirely, but rather that they are given less prominence. However, it isn't excluded that in the future something will change in this matter, and Styczen already indicates the possibility of introducing, for instance, siege mechanics.
Castles, sieges, and siege engines are a fairly iconic part of the time period, and I have some grand plans for the implementation of these aspects. I've previously showcased how some of the systems might work, and some of them were even in-game for testing at various points of development. Currently, I'm not yet sure how much of it will be available to play with at launch, and how much will be added over time during the early access period instead.
It must be acknowledged that such battles would make a fantastic addition to Manor Lords. Having more choices is always good, although they wouldn't be essential since the game already includes a "Rise to Prosperity" scenario that doesn't involve any combat. On the other hand, looking at the current popularity of the title, it is clear that it is not a necessary element to attract players.
