Mads Mikkelsen Will Replace Johnny Depp in Fantastic Beasts 3

Mads Mikkelsen's participation in the third part of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has been officially confirmed. He will replace Johnny Depp as Grindelwald.

Just over 2 weeks ago we informed about ongoing talks between Warner Bros. and Mads Mikkelsen on him potentially replacing Johnny Depp as Grindelwald. Since yesterday we know that they were successful and the actor will perform in Fantastic Beasts 3 (via IndieWire).

Mikkelsen has already done well in the roles of characteristic antagonists; in fact, all Hollywood cinema fans know him from this kind of performances. We have seen him in Dr. Strange (as Kaecilius) and in Rogue 1 (as Galen Erso). It is worth noting, however, that in Scandinavia he is associated with more subdued and dramatic roles - such works as The Huntor Druk (both by Thomas Vinterberg) come to mind.

The actor will immediately join the work that is currently taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden near London. He will join the cast with Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller, Jude Law and Edward Redmayne among others. The film is due to debut in cinemas on July 15, 2022.

If you don't know why Depp has been replaced by Mikkelsen, it has to do with the the former's personal life and the controversial court case against his partner, Amber Heard. We wrote more about the whole situation here.

Fans of the Danish actor will probably be interested to know that he recently commented on the fourth part of Hannibal, claiming that the bigger the break between seasons, the more viewers are waiting for a continuation (via IndieWire). The return of the series to life seems more and more likely.
