Mac Book Recommends Microsoft Surface - Corporate Level Trolling
Microsoft has reached the heights of creativity and in its latest advertisement decided to troll Apple in a very sophisticated way. Mac Book itself recommends Microsoft Surface laptops.
This man is Mackenzie Book, called Mac for the purpose of this campaign, 'Mac' Book in short. Mackenzie is a real man of flesh and blood who lives somewhere in Australia. Microsoft used his character to master troll of its biggest competitors in the US market - Apple. The character appeared in a short commercial spot, where he compares Microsoft Surface 2 laptop with MacBook Air.
The competition takes place in three stages. Mackenzie compares the speed of devices, battery life and a touchscreen, which the Air doesn't even have. This is, of course, a reason to mock Apple, and Microsoft couldn't pass on such an opportunity.
"You should get yourself a Surface. Trust me, I'm Mac Book,"
as Mackenzie ends his speech.
Microsoft is a relatively new player in the U.S. market for laptops. The company is doing its best to be noticed in a market dominated by Apple. Such direct flick in the nose may not be fair, but it certainly attracts attention, and that's what marketing is all about.
Campaigns conducted in this way are not the first in advertising. Not so long ago Apple got hit by Samsung in a similar way when one of the commercials featured actors with cut out notes on the hairline.
Corporate level trolling is not a common occurrence and it is rare for serious companies to play similar games. This expression of creativity should therefore be appreciated.
