Little Big Adventure Will Return in 2024

Twinsen's Little Big Adventure, a reboot of the iconic 1990s series, is coming. It is set to be released in two years.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. One of the creators of the Little Big Adventure series has founded a new studio and is working on the next installment;
  2. The game is titled Twinsen's Little Big Adventure and is coming to PC and consoles;
  3. The release is planned for 2024;
  4. The game will be a reboot of the series, not a continuation.

Studio 2.21 came to existence last September and it was announced at the time that it was working on a new installment of the Little Big Adventure series. Now the team revealed that it plans to release the game in 2024 to celebrate the brand's 30th birthday. The reboot will be titled Twinsen's Little Big Adventure.

The game will hit PC and consoles. The devteam will not be too numerous - it will eventually include twelve people, which is a smaller number than in the case of the team responsible for Little Big Adventure 2. The creators believe, however, that thanks to ingenuity and the use of modern technologies, the developers will be able to create a game that will satisfy both old-time fans and new players.

2.21 was founded by Didier Chanfray, the co-founder of Adeline Software and one of the artists responsible for the earlier installments of the series. When announcing plans for the new game, the creator explained why we haven't seen a new game in the series, and explained the reasons behind the decision to prepare a reboot of the brand instead of a traditional sequel.

After finishing work on Little Big Adventure 2, the creators founded No Cliché. They secured financial support from Sega, and the task was to create games for the Dreamcast console. Rights to the LBA brand were still managed by Delphine Software, which was owned by Adeline Software.

When Dreamcast's life come to an end, Didier Chanfray founded his own studio called Little Worlds, which was active for ten years. After that the developer wanted to return to Little Big Adventure and bought back all rights to the brand from Delphine Software.

In 2011, both original games were released on GOG.com, and a port of the first LBA for iOS and Android was prepared together with DotEmu. Unfortunately, mobile games were not successful, forcing the abandonment of plans associated with porting LBA2 for smartphones and tablets. Everything seemed to indicate that players do not show enough interest in the brand to justify creating a third part. The situation was further aggravated by the appearance of the LittleBigPlanet series, due to which the phrase "Little Big..." is now associated with this brand, and not with older Adeline Software games.

The situation changed in 2021, when Chanfray was contacted by a big fan of Little Big Adventure Benoît Limare, an entrepreneur who specializes in investing in technology companies. The duo decided to launch a new studio and start working on the next installment of the series.

The ambition of 2.21 is to make LBA a large and popular brand. Therefore, the old plans to develop Little Big Adventure 3: The Stellar Entity Genesis were abandoned, as this part of the series was supposed to end the whole series, and the dcreators want the brand to be developed for a long time. As a result, it was decided to create a reboot in the form of Twinsen's Little Big Adventure.

The creators realize that abandoning plans for the third part may be disappointing for some fans. That's why last year they released the source code of LBA1 and LBA2, so that the most devoted fans could create their own stories in the beloved universe.
