The legends of the adventure game genre are coming back. Ken and Roberta Williams, the founders of Sierra, are working on a new title.

Colossal Cave 3D - what we know about the game

This is a big event, as the Williams couple have been on developer's retirement for over two decades now.

  1. Their new project is Collosal Cave 3D.
  2. It is an adventure game, which is a remake of Colossal Cave Adventure from 1976, the original considered to be one of the first text adventure games in history.
  3. The release is scheduled for autumn this year.
  4. The game is being developed with VR devices in mind and will use the Unity engine.
  5. The title will come to PC, Mac and the Oculus Quest 2 VR headset.
  6. In Collosal Cave 3D we will explore a huge cave (covering over 143 locations) in search of treasure. We will encounter both allies and enemies on our journey.

The return of these gamedev legends was triggered by boredom caused by pandemic lockdowns. To keep himself occupied with something, Ken Williams decided to learn the Unity engine. It reminded him of the good old days of Sierra and inspired him to develop a new game together with his wife.
