Today Launches Free Version of Dark and Darker. Devs of Would-Be Steam Hit Invite Players to Test New Features

Dark and Darker can be checked out for free before the start of the new season, which will tinker a bit with the game's balance and make it less unforgiving.

The free version of Dark and Darker is now available. Hotfix 51 for the early access of the dark dungeon crawler introduced a handful of new features, including the ability to play for free after installing the Blacksmith client (the title remains unavailable on Steam and the Epic Games Store).

Of course, playing without paying has certain limitations. The player is limited to creating one character and can only play at the normal difficulty level. Nonetheless, a free account gives access to all maps where you can perform quests and collect loot.

For now, the devs don't allow upgrading from a free account to a paid, legendary version. This option will be available from the new season, which will start in a few days. The exact date hasn't been given yet.

By the way, Ironmace studio improved the accounts of all buyers of the standard or "foundation" edition Dark and Darker to the Legendary (i.e. premium) version.

Besides, the developers prepared significant balance changes. On one hand, they aim to make the game less challenging in the initial stages of play and decrease the number of unwinnable situations in the new season, while on the other hand, they seek to minimize variations in the combat capabilities of items.

This will be achieved, among other things, by throwing out "junk" loot and unnamed unique items, weakening the strongest pieces, and removing "too valuable" modifiers. Of course, all of this requires rebalancing the classes. At the same time, each character receives a bonus to health points.
