Intel Iris Xe GPU Will Not Work With AMD Processors
According to the information presented by Intel, the dedicated Iris Xe DG1 GPU will work only with motherboards based on a specific chipset. This means that the GPU will not work with AMD processors.
As reported by Legit Reviews, the dedicated Iris Xe GPU created by Intel will require a special UEFI BIOS, which is supposed to be available only on motherboards with specific chipsets (B460, H410, B365 or H310C). This means that the card will not work with AMD processors. The GPU in question will only work with Intel's Coffee Lake-S or Comet Lake-S series CPUs.
"The Iris Xe discrete add-in card will be paired with 9th gen (Coffee Lake-S) and 10th gen (Comet Lake-S) Intel® Core™ desktop processors and Intel(R) B460, H410, B365, and H310C chipset-based motherboards and sold as part of pre-built systems. These motherboards require a special BIOS that supports Intel Iris Xe, so the cards won’t be compatible with other systems," Intel spokesperson said in a statement for Legit Reviews.
The first Intel Iris Xe graphics card is known as DG1 and will feature 80 execution units (640 shader units) and 4GB of LPDDR4X memory on a 128-bit bus. It is worth noting that the chip is to be available only in ready-made computer kits (so-called OEM) and is not dedicated to gamers. The GPU will prove useful primarily at work and in science (e.g. in applications related to widely understood e-learning or remote teaching).
