Warning! Below are spoilers from episode 7 of X-Men '97.
Lately episodes of X-Men '97 are generating more and more excitement and making the scheme more complex. In the latest episode, the group of mutants said goodbye to Gambit, who died a heroic death, as well as there was a surprise appearance by Captain America, who teamed up with Rogue. However, that's not the biggest highlights of episode 7 of the TV series, as it finally revealed something Marvel fans have been waiting for for some time.
Bastion is the big bad in X-Men '97 season 1
As revealed at the end of episode 7 of X-Men '97, behind recent events in reality isn’t Mister Sinister himself, but someone who is still above him. Someone far more dangerous – we're talking about Bastion, whose voice actor is Theo James. It turns out that Bastion has a big plan in store and is slowly laying out his pawns on the chessboard, intending to play the game quite differently from what Mister Sinister tells him. Bastion, by his own admission, intends to act quite differently from villains of old, like his sidekick.
So what is he going to do? Presumably his goal is to exterminate mutants with the help of Prime Sentinels. If this happens, we can expect a plot reminiscent of that of Operation: Zero Tolerance. And it looks like everything is really heading in that direction, because Bolviar Trask, who we thought Rogue had dealt with forever, has returned as the robotic Prime Sentinel, Bastion's creation, probably not the first and not the last.
One thing is certain – what he intends to do could be in dire consequences, since even Cable has come to the present to warn Cyclops about him. As he said himself, Bastion must be stopped at all costs, otherwise there will be no future worth living in.
Also, one of the surprises Bastion holds in store is certainly that Magneto somehow survived the Genosha annihilation. But the anti-hero is currently imprisoned by a villain who has some plans for him, maybe he wants to turn him into another powerful Prime Sentinel that he can use against X-Men.
Who is Bastion?
Bastion, or Sebastion Gilberti if you prefer, is a mutant-hating machine that emerged from the merger of Nimrod and Master Mold after fighting the X-Men. Siege Perilous' mystical energy allowed him to be reborn as a cybernetic hybrid in a human-like body. And Bastion was raised as a human Sebastion Gilberti, but soon became interested in anti-mutant movements through hist deep-seated dislike of mutants, which led him to want to rid the world of them all.
With his cybernetic body, Bastion possesses superhuman abilities such as inhuman strength, speed, endurance, agility, and like all sentinels, he has the ability to adapt, so he can modify his exterior and mechanism to equalize his abilities, making him a major threat to mutants.
Bastion can also transform inorganic matter into techno-mechanical material, over which he has total control. In addition, thanks to the Techno-Organic Virus, he can reanimate the dead, and has access to the senses of any person he has infected with the virus, so he is fully connected to them and can see and hear what they do and he can send them informations.
Bastion also uses technopathy and technoformation and can modify his appearance and shape, so that, for example, he has wings and increases his size. His abilities also include energy manipulation, telepathic immunity, as well as teleportation and the ability to travel through time. It must be said that this is a wide range of abilities that makes him a major threat.
For now, it's unclear if all of them, and if not which of these skills Bastion from X-Men '97 has.
