Assassin's Creed: Shadows gives side quests a bigger role than ever. Thanks to them, we will learn full story of Naoe and Yasuke
The creative director of Assassin's Creed: Shadows talked more about side quests. In some of them, we are supposed to see flashbacks from Naoe and Yasuke's past.

There is still over a month left until the launch of Assassin's Creed: Shadows and during this time Ubisoft will be releasing more game materials. The creative director of the title, Jonathan Dumont, also hypes the atmosphere around the new "Assassin," explaining the division of side quests in a conversation with Screen Rant.
Overall, quests are intended to be categorized into three types: objectives or bandits, centered on relationships, and concealed by meditation mechanics. The first type focuses on eliminating specific targets, while the second one develops a bond with certain characters. However, the third one, which is supposed to show retrospectives from the past of Naoe and Yasuke, seems the most interesting.
There's a couple of surprises where some of the side content is sort of hidden behind a couple of meditation mechanics, where we do get to experience the past of Naoe and then Yasuke as well. So these are flashbacks that we get. So at first, you play, you don't know exactly who they are, and then you get the full, "oh, that's why he's here," or something like that.
Thanks to these retrospections from the protagonists' lives, we will learn more about their motivations. Moreover, we will get to know the characters better, as at the beginning of the adventure we have very little information about them.
In another interview, the game's creative director shared more details about building and expanding our own hideout, where we can collect the animals we come across. Moreover, he commented on the decision to introduce two playable characters into the game.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows will be released on March 20, 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
