IGI Origins Devs to be Fired Later This Summer; Game's Fate Uncertain
Dark clouds hang over IGI Origins. It turns out that the British studio responsible for the game, Antimatter Games, will be closed.
When the developers at Antimatter Games released an extensive gameplay from I.G.I. Origins at the end of last year, it seemed that after many years and several delays the release of the next installment of the series would finally take place. Unfortunately, today it is unclear whether the game will ever hit the market.
- As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Swedish holding company Enad Global 7, which owns Antimatter Games, after "exploring various strategic options" decided to close the studio. The process will be finalized later this summer.
- From the report, we learn that EG7 considered, among other things, selling the studio and finding an external publisher for I.G.I. Origins. Ultimately, however, no agreement was reached with either company.
- Enad Global 7 anticipates that the closure of Antimatter Games will result in savings of SEK 50 million per year. Unfortunately, 52 people will lose their jobs as a result of this decision.
At the time of writing this news, the further fate of I.G.I. Origins is unknown. It seems most likely that the game, which has been in development for years, will simply be canceled. However, we keep our fingers crossed that the project will find a new home.
