Hyenas Disappointed; Gamers Wanted New Alien, Got Generic Pulp
Yesterday, Creative Assembly, whose works include the great Alien: Isolation, presented the first trailer for their new project, which is Hyenas. Unfortunately something went wrong.
We're fresh off the unveiling of a trailer for the online FPS Hyenas. Fans of Creative Assembly had high expectations of the upcoming game. After all, the team responsible for Alien: Isolation could not - colloquially speaking - screw up anything. And yet.
When I watched the video myself, I became convinced that the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment. It seems that I am not the only one who is deeply inconsolable about the way Hyenas looks.
"From Alien: Isolation to this..."
On the Internet's various websites there are a lot of unflattering opinions about Creative Assembly's work. People expected something dark, mysterious, full of brutality, and what they got was colorful game with smiling heroes fighting with plushies. Not to be outdone, I'll quote a few statements from players. Almost all of them are in a similar tone (there are a few positive, but their number is negligible).
"From Alien Isolation to this... I'm sad," wrote Superherosolution.
"Better make Isolation 2 or another great game in the Alien universe," comments Boris Tovmasyan.
"I can only hope the gameplay will be good, because I am heartily sick of the graffiti-punk aesthetic in games, none of these characters look visually appealing," wrote WarpDrv.
"I honestly think this game was created entirely by a machine-learning AI that has been fed tiktocks and Twitch streams for the past few years," snides deathtofatalists.
The above comments appeared on YouTube and Reddit.
Will the reviews shake up the developer?
One can only hope that players' dissatisfaction will not escape the attention of the developer, who will perhaps respond to the huge criticism of the upcoming game. I'm sure that the game will face many design changes by the time of release.
Finally, we remind that Hyenas is heading to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. The release date is set for 2023.
For those who missed yesterday's trailer of Creative Assembly's game, once again we present footage from the upcoming network FPS.
