Hundreds of Thousands of Helldivers 2 Players Triumph Over Automatons, Despite Sneaky Bugs
Automatons in Helldivers 2 lost the battle against Super Earth. Hundreds of thousands of Democracy defenders led humanity to victory in the battle against robots in the Swift Disassembly operation.
Helldivers 2 fans were pleasantly surprised and euphoric as the Democracy forces successfully repelled the Automatons in Operation Swift Disassembly. The devs... I mean the council of Super Earth, congratulated the players on a successful campaign, which culminated in two weeks of intense clashes with the forces of mechanical invaders (via X).
The announcement of the robots' kick off came as a significant surprise. Indeed, that was the intended purpose of the whole operation, but few anticipated that the developers would truly opt to remove one of the two opposing factions from the game. Furthermore, one of the developers recently stated that a complete triumph over the Automatons wouldn't be an "exciting story" for the players. He clearly forgot to add: "if the fans are expecting it."
Of course, everyone is convinced that this is the definitive triumph of Super Earth, except for a "few" unpatriotic troublemakers who insist that the Automatons will come back in the future. These enemies of Democracy are spreading gossip that the machines haven't abandoned the plan known as "The Reclamation" and are preparing for another offensive, this time targeting Cyberstan, the former stronghold of the Cyborg faction from the original Helldivers.
After definitively dealing with the Automatons, players can focus their efforts on fighting the Terminids. The Major Order mandates the liberation of three planets, Hellmire, Estan, and Crimsic, from bug occupation.
Some fans, who have so far avoided insects, must prepare for unpleasant surprises when facing the "new" enemy. Another thing is that the Terminids probably won't be thrilled either when hundreds of thousands of battle-hardened veterans come to them for a friendly visit (via Reddit / X).
Defenders of Democracy aren't afraid of crashes
Although the offensive against the Automatons ended in an undeniable success, the operation didn't go smoothly. The machines in Helldivers 2 also used a dirty trick, forcing players to close the game, mainly when leaving planets and completing missions.
The devs are aware of this and assured that they will soon release a patch to fix this problem (via Discord). They also apologized for the studio's unusual late response to this issue "for many reasons" and thanked the players for participating in the Swift Disassembly operation despite these problems.
Dealing with robots was made more difficult by the appearance of a new danger. Some players were rather late in realizing that factories producing flying Automatons Gunships are impervious to orbital bombardment and similar Stratagems - they can only be destroyed using a weapon known as Hellbombs.
Players continued to experiment stubbornly, but one of the developers ultimately confirmed that the Democracy soldiers were simply squandering strategies (via Discord). Likely due to misinformation spread by traitors to humanity who support machines.
Despite these problems, the Swift Disassembly operation not only ended successfully but also attracted a huge number of players. At its peak, over 345,000 users were playing Helldivers 2 on Steam alone (via SteamDB). This isn't a record for the game (or even the total number of Democracy defenders last weekend - H2 is also available on PlayStation 5), but it demonstrates the continued strong interest in a title that still manages to attract many players after two months of its release.
