How to get a medkit in Hyper Light Breaker
Hyper Light Breaker is not an easy game. To make it more managable, you'll have to use medkits. Getting them is not very straightforward though, so here you'll learn how to do it.
It is nothing uncommon for the game series to evolve into multiple dimensions. Hyper Light Breaker is following the path of Risk of Rain and Risk of Rain 2, the first was 2D and the latter moved to 3D. While Hyper Light Drifter, the flat predecessor of HLB, was a successful title, receiving more than 90% of positive reviews on Steam, the latest instalment is not as lucky. Still in Early Access, the production is not very warmly received by fans, who often complain about balance and difficulty in their reviews. To make the game a bit easier, it is possible to use medkits mid-run, yet this feature is not as obvious as it might appear. Here you will learn how to get and replenish those healing items.
Medkits in HLB explained
As we already had a chance to play Hyper Light Drifter, we know it holds potential, yet it can be challenging at times. The best way to make it more manageable is to play with friends, who will be able to aid you in your venture through Overgrowth. No matter though whether you choose to play solo or with others, a handy medkit at your disposal is always a great help. Obtaining those utility items is quite simple yet can be obscure at first.
Medkits are unlockable via the skilltree which is accessible through the Breaker Captain character in the main hub. Fortunately, it doesn’t take much to make them usable, as they are part of Tier 1 abilities. You can find them just to the right of the “Tier 1” mark in the skilltree. To buy it, however, you will need an item called Golden Rations.
During the game, you can replenish medkits at Shrines. However, if you manage to gather more of the green-yellow plants (medigem), they will be also converted to a medkit (3:1 ratio) at the beginning of your next run.
Getting Golden Rations in Hyper Light Breaker
The rations function as skillpoints, they are one of the essential resources. You can obtain them by exploration. During your runs you can stumble upon chests containing them. Of course, to get the prize, you will have to defeat enemies guarding it and then use some Bright Blood to open the box itself. It is not the only method to get this currency, though. Another way to do so is to play the game and earn ranks by ending the cycle. By doing that, you will eventually receive a golden ration.
Hopefully now, you will be able to sustain yourself a bit better during the runs. Let’s not forget that all of this is subject to change as Hyper Light Breaker is currently in the Early Access stage, available only on PC, with possible console ports later. Have fun!
