How Make NPC Interactions in GTA 6 Really Interesting and Fun? Strauss Zelnick Has an Idea
Take-Two's CEO sees a lot of potential in artificial intelligence. AI can positively influence interactions with NPCs in games, among other things.
Now that the euphoria over the announcement of December presentation of Grand Theft Auto VI is slowly subsiding, we can analyze the latest information from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. He suggested, among other things, that the game may use artificial intelligence models to create a more interactive world.
The helmsman of the corporation took part in the Paley International Council summit (via Inverse), during which he addressed the use of AI in the game industry. Zelnick made no secret of the fact that he is an advocate of the introduction of such solutions, which can significantly affect the quality of gameplay, especially with regard to NPCs. In his opinion, thanks to artificial intelligence, NPCs can become more interesting and entertaining.
"You control a playable character, you interact with an NPC. This interaction is currently scripted, and NPCs are unlikely to be very interesting. However, you can imagine all the NPCs suddenly becoming really interesting and entertaining," he explained.
Although the use of artificial intelligence in the game industry can bring it a lot of benefits, according to Zelnick, the process will certainly not be quick, let alone cheap.
"Our strategy is to be the most creative, most innovative and most efficient company in the industry, and I think artificial intelligence probably meets all three criteria. But don't expect prices [of video games - ed. note] to go down. Just expect things to get better - explained during a recent meeting with investors (via GamesRadar).
And while Zelnick now eagerly supports AI development, recall the situation a few months ago, when Rockstar Games allegedly pulled the plug on fan-made modification called Sentient Streets, which, thanks to artificial intelligence, enabled conversations with NPCs in GTA V.
