Problems of the game on PC
According to players, the PC edition of Hogwarts Legacy is said to leave something to be desired.
- The game generally runs smoothly, but gamers report that sudden performance drops occur and are often difficult to explain with what is happening on the screen.
- For example, one fan has a GeForce 3070, and Hogwarts Legacy runs at about 75 frames per second at high detail (without ray tracing and at 1440p resolution). Occasionally, however, the game can go down to 15 fps for a short while, and at one point performance dropped as low as 7 frames per second.
- Other players report a bug that causes low-quality character models to be displayed, looking like they're from 32-bit consoles. You can see this in the image below:
Advice from players
On Reddit, players are sharing tips on how to deal with some of the game's problems.
Manually updating DLSS files
Some recommend replacing the DLSS files in the game. This is because version of this technology included in Hogwarts Legacy is quite old. This can be done using the DLSS Swapper app, which is, however, quite difficult to perform.
A much easier solution is to update the DLSS files manually. Just download the archive with the dll files and extract them to "...Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Engine\Plugins\Runtime\Nvidia\DLSS\Binaries\ThirdParty\Win64".
Many fans have already tried this method and report that it has resulted in significant performance increases and reduced clipping.
Digging around in the settings
Other players advise disabling the v-sync option in the game and enable vertical sync in your graphics card's control panel instead. If you have a GeForce, it's also supposed to make a big difference to use the Nvidia Reflex with boost enabled.
In addition, when the campaign reaches the point where you can explore the interior of Hogwarts, you'd better restart the game. This is because at this point, performance degrades drastically for many people, but after restarting, the engine runs properly again.
Greater immersion
Players are delighted with the open world in the game. That's why some of them recommend turning off target markers and the minimap, which increases immersion.
Twitch record
How highly anticipated Hogwarts Legacy is, is best reflected by the fact that the game has set a a new record on Twitch. Yesterday, at the hottest moment of the day, the broadcasts from the game were watched by more than 1.3 million viewers at the same time..
This success was helped by attractive Twitch Drops - people who watch at least 30 minutes of streaming from this game between February 7-24 can unlock one of four virtual items (costume, glasses, hat and scarf). Getting all of them requires watching four broadcasts of that length.
Recall that Hogwarts Legacy will be officially released on February 10 on PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PlayStation 5. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners will have to wait until April 4 for their release, and Nintendo Switch users will have to wait until July 25.
