Hogwarts Legacy Discovery Suggests Game was Meant to Look Different
New dialogues of several key NPCs have been discovered in the PC version of Hogwarts Legacy. Players are convinced that this is a remnant of the cut out companion system.
One of the features that players say is missing from Hogwarts Legacy, is the companion system. We can only cooperate with companions - such as Sebastian Sallow, Natasi Onai, Poppy Sweeting or Amit Thakkar - in the course of selected quests. However, they cannot participate in any quests or just explore Hogwarts and its surroundings with us.
It is possible, however, that this was Avalanche Software's original intention. A trace of it was noticed after installing the Companions Mod, thanks to which Sebastian, Natasi, Poppy or Amit (as well as Imelda Reyes, for example) can accompany us all the time. This has revealed new hidden dialogue lines spoken by them in missions in which they should not participate.
As proof, you can watch the video below, which was published by TikTok user miss_soapy (sophia). The quest presented on it is Ghost of Our Love - its "normal" course was demonstrated in our guide.
New issues of the above-mentioned NPCs were also encountered in another quest - Well, Well, Well. The community is trying to determine the origin of this find. The most likely scenario assumes that it is a remnant of a cut-out companion system. Avalanche Software may have abandoned it because it did not work properly.
Some fans seem convinced that the feature was removed due to the need to release Hogwarts Legacy on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch (the PS4 and XOne versions suffered another delay recently and will be released on May 5, while the one for Switch is scheduled for release on July 25). It also cannot be ruled out that initially the game's script assumed that some characters would accompany us on more missions.
Moreover, there has been speculation that the would-be companion system was cut intentionally so that it could then be offered as a DLC. However, it is worth recalling here that the developers are not planning any DLCs. If Hogwarts Legacy would indeed receive such a feature, it will rather be added in the form of an update or will be included in the eventual GOTY / Complete Edition.
