Hideo Kojima's Superhero Game Canceled Due to The Boys

The Amazon Prime series has ensured that we will not experience Hideo Kojima's take on superheroes. The Japanese game developer talks about a canceled project.

As one of the most recognizable video game developers, Hideo Kojima has many famous titles to his credit. However, one may wonder how many of his projects were never finalized and vanished into oblivion at the concept stage. We have just learned about one of them.

Yesterday, on his profile on Twitter, Kojima shared his thoughts on The Boys - a TV series about self-proclaimed defenders of justice who oppose superheroes and their superpowers. The Japanese actor admits to having watched just three episodes of the first season, but it was enough for the series to influence his creative process.

It turns out, he had been planning to create a game based on a similar concept for quite some time.

The would-be game was to tell the story of two friends who, with the help of a detective group, would face off against legendary superheroes. The main role was to be played by Mads Mikkelsen, with whom Kojima had a chance to cooperate in Death Stranding.

The project was abandoned due to its similarity to Amazon's series. However, the creator assured that at that point it was just an idea whose realization had not yet begun, so the withdrawal did not come at any cost.

That's hardly news in pop culture, though, and Hideo wasn't concerned about the unfortunate coincidence. What we do know is that at the moment he is working on a a horror game called Overdose. Recently, there was also a lot of talk about his collaboration with Microsoft.

We can only imagine the final product. Would you play a superhero game made by Kojima?
