One Man's Strategy Game Hexoplanet Announced
A lovely economic strategy game about robots colonizing a new planet, Hexoplanet, has been announced. The game is being developed by only one person and is due out next year.
Have you ever started working on something just for fun and then watched a small project grow into something big that you hadn't planned? That's exactly what happened to Max Gittel, who four years ago started "tinkering" with a game. Today it has receive a title and you can watch the first trailer. Here's Hexoplanet - a beautiful economic strategy game about self-aware robots colonizing a new planet for their masters, humans.
At the core of Hexoplanet's concept lies the mechanic of games like Factorio - we gather resources, build factories, manufacture products, create logistic chains (using trucks, trains and boats), develop new technologies, etc. What distinguishes Max Gittel's project is undoubtedly the graphics. The world created on a hexagonal grid is a real eye-catcher, regardless of whether you're looking at beaches bathed in sunlight, industrial areas shrouded in clouds of pollution or mountains (or rather, piles of hexagons) covered in conifers. Atmospheric effects are also quite impressive.
And that's not all, because the end of the above trailer may also suggest an interesting plot. The robot number 392094343 looks at the inscription on its forearm that reads "owned by humans" and then raises its gaze to the sky. Is a revolution in the making? I don't know about you, but I'd love to find out. Hexoplanet is still in development, but according to Gittel it should be released next year.
