Helmets in Helldivers 2 Were to Be Far More Important, but Devs Had to 'Ship the Game'
Helmets in Helldivers 2 were originally intended to be more than just a cosmetic element. The developers were forced to cut this element due to lack of time, but are considering returning to it in the future.
Right now, (almost) all helmets in Helldivers 2 serve solely as a cosmetic element and don't differ from each other in statistics. Did you know that it wasn't always meant to be this way?
Arrowhead studio initially intended to give them more significance, making them a crucial part of the equipment. At least that's what can be inferred from the words of the team leader, Johan Pilestedt, who recently visited the game's official Discord server, where he answered questions from the community. One of the players asked if the developers intend to add special features for capes in the future, to which Pilestedt replied:
Not to capes, but I know there's a convo on Helmets. Originally, each helmet was going to have a unique 'HUD'--so medics would be able to see health, recon would get enemy outlines etc. But we unfortunately had to cut it due to... Well, having to ship the game.
Therefore, it appears that title may be expanded in the future to include a helmet system, which will undoubtedly delight many players. On the other hand, they will become another element requiring balance, and this, as recent updates show, is quite controversial.
How about Master Chief's helmet?
Returning to strictly cosmetic aspects, a video has been posted on, showcasing character models from other titles, such as Master Chief, Buzz Lightyear, or Star-Lord, added to Helldivers 2 through mods. This appealed not only to Pilestedt himself, but also to fans who started asking him about a potential crossover with the Halo series. Regrettably, the response wasn't positive.
I would be a safe bet to say never [to Helldivers 2 and Halo crossover]. But MC looks cool in the Helldivers world. Damn, now I feel like digging up the OG Xbox and replay OG Halo in coop.
