He Spent 100 Hours Designing a City; Screenshot Froze His PC
A SimCity 4 player created a city of 64 square kilometers, which he then decided to photograph. The process squeezed the last drops of performance from his laptop, freezing it repeatedly.
SimCity 4 player by the handle CheeseJuust shared his unusual achievement. Namely, he spent more than 100 hours creating a map of 64 square kilometers, which freezed his laptop. Sounds impressive, doesn't it?
A map of considerable size
In his post CheeseJuust wrote, that the city in SimCity 4 can have a maximum area of 16 square kilometers. So the metropolis he built is four times larger than the game assumes.
Of course, his accomplishment would be nothing if he could not provide pictures. This, however, proved to be very challenging. As the author stated, while processing the photo in Photoshop, his laptop with 8 GB of RAM repeatedly refused to cooperate.
"I sat in front of the stuttering computer endlessly waiting for it to buffer something. But it was worth it, it's always a pleasure to look at the end result (I also do 4x4 versions) [i.e. standard size - ed. note]," wrote the city's creator.
And an even larger photo
The reason for this situation was the fact that the image has a resolution of 15 thousand by 10 thousand pixels, and when zoomed in we are able to see 1.5 million sims living in Megapolis.
Moreover, the original photo was 200 MB in size, which is why the author attached a compressed version to the post. You can view it here (it may take a while to load, the file is 17 MB) and in an even more reduced version below.
Players were surprised not only by the size of the photo, but also by the work put into the project. Not only is the Megapolis gigantic, it's also well designed, an amazing feat for many players..
"I admire your project, it looks really realistic. My cities always looked like total chaos, I managed traffic terribly. Great job!," wrote nomismi.
"Great job! I like the organic look of the agricultural areas and the fact that the city itself looks quite natural," wrote dethb0y.
