GTA Remastered Trilogy Could Come Out Later This Year

According to Kotaku, remasters of three iconic GTA games will be released later this year. The games are to be powered by Unreal Engine.

Kotaku, citing its sources at Rockstar Games, reported today that most likely this year we will witness the launch of remasters of three classic installments of Grand Theft Auto: GTA III, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas. The trilogy is to be released in "late fall" on PC, current and last generation of consoles, but also Nintendo Switch and Stadia.

The fact that Rockstar is planning such a move has long been rumored, especially since for a long time now GTA's publisher Take-Two has been shutting down all fan modding projects referring to these classic installments. Kotaku cites an informant who has already proven his credibility with leaks regarding GTA Online and Red Dead Online, among others.

All three games are already in the final stages of development. It is known that the engine on which they are created is the Unreal Engine, and in terms of graphics the remasters are to be a combination of old and new visuals. In terms of gameplay, the refreshed versions of GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas are to remain as faithful to the originals as possible.

Rockstar Dundee, a Scottish branch of the company, is to be responsible for the work on remasters. Previously known as Ruffian Games, it was responsible for, among other things Crackdown 2. According to a leak, the release of Remastered Trilogy was already planned last year, but the COVID-19 pandemic thwarted the developers. If the source cited by Kotaku is to be believed, we can expect the release this fall. Refreshed versions of classic GTA games are to be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, and at a later date also on mobile devices.
