Gray Zone – New Tactical RTS with RPG Elements Announced
A new tactical RTS with RPG elements is in the works. Gray Zone, as the game is called, will debut in March in early access.
EastWorks Studios, usually involved in outsourcing (they created content for Mafia III, Murdered Souls Suspect, Arma III), announced their original game. Gray Zone, a tactical RTS game with RPG elements, the action of which takes place in the distant future.
In the game we will command a group of heroes - we will be able to adopt aggressive approach or use more subtle means. During the game we will have to act in such a way as to minimize losses and defeat or outwit the opponent. The game will have a tactic mode (like an active pause), which will allow us to plan our next steps.
The game is supposed to offer an interesting story - we start the adventure as a slave who rebels against his former masters. The only chance to liberate the nation will be to work with local, oppressed people on successive planets in the galaxy.
We contacted the developers to discuss the details of the world of Gray Zone. The plot promises to be an interesting political intrigue:
In our game we have human and alien cultures united into one multi-cultural empire called the "Union". We also have Rebels and a kind of Empire, but the differences between the factions are more inconsistent.
Rudolf Staruch, Eastworks Studio
By the way, we asked the creators of the game about the inspirations they followed in creating the game. Rudolf Staruch of Eastworks Studio answered us:
It's very difficult for me to say for certain which game or film was the source inspiration for the world of GrayZone. To be honest I'm a big fan of Star Wars and I think you can find some elements from that in the design and other aspects.
Regarding inspiration for Gray Zone you can find in our game elements from the Commandos games, also Assault Squad 2, X-COM, StarCraft, Gear of Wars, Unreal 3 and many other games and films.
Gray Zone will be released on Steam in early access in March 2020. Game is priced at $19.99.
