Gran Turismo 7 Devs Cave in and Undo Controversial Changes
Gran Turismo 7 has had a rough week - fortunately Polyphony Digital has just announced the reversal of recent controversial decisions and other changes for the better. We can count on higher rewards for races or the option to sell cars.
The members of Polyphony Digital couldn't say the last few days have been very good for them. In fact, that may have been the worst days of their careers. Gran Turismo 7 has become the worst-rated game on Metacritic, in case you missed the storm that followed the release of patch 1.07 for the game.
In any case, the developer has finally gotten a grip and issued a response to the criticism. This time, instead of advising to rate GT7 "over a long term" and explaining that "car prices are an important factor in making them unique and rare" (which is why they must be expensive and sometimes even unobtainable), the developers decided to announce the desired changes.
Changes for the near future
For a good start players will receive one million "free" credits as a "goodwill gesture" (only applies to people who owned the game before March 25 and will launch it by April 25). Then, in early April, another update will be released, after which we can expect the following changes:
- Increase rewards for selected races on Global tracks by an average of 100%. - applies to races on facilities unlocked in the second half of our career;
- Introduction of high rewards for completing Track Practice for bronze/gold medals;
- Increased payouts for online races;
- Adding eight one-hour endurance races (with high rewards) to Missions;
- Increased number of used and legendary cars available for purchase at particular moment;
- Increased wallet capacity from 20 million to 100 million "free" credits.
Changes for more distant future
Additionally, before the end of April, we will see the new tracks and cars, which will be introduced over the course of several updates. After that, we can expect more changes to ease the pain for players.
- An option to sell owned vehicles will be added.
- There will be more competitions on World Tracks.
- More endurance races will be added to Missions, including 24-hour races.
- We will see network time trials where the best players can expect the biggest rewards.
There is one more enigmatic item on the list: "Increased monetary value of time-limited rewards as the game grows as a service". To be honest, I don't know what the developer means by this. Could it simply be a plan to implement a lucrative seasonal competition into GT7, similar to what we know from Gran Turismo 5 and 6? We'll find out in time.
So - are you ready to forgive Polyphony Digital for their misdeeds after such an act of contrition? Let us know in the comments, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
