Gran Turismo 7 Dev on New Driving Model, Realistic Weather and More

The director of Gran Turismo has spoken about the latest installment in the series. Kazunori Yamauchi shared information on the technical and gameplay aspects of the game.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • A dev of Gran Turismo 7 has spoken out about the game;
  • The next installment of the series is to use a more "natural" driving model;
  • The developer is also proud of the advanced weather system.

We still have to wait almost six months for the release of Gran Turismo 7, but more and more information about the game is appearing online. This time the source is the director, Kazunori Yamauchi. In an interview with GTPlanet he shared details on the game's technical aspects and some gameplay elements.

Firstly, he referred to the possible differences between the game on PS4 and PS5. According to Yamauchi, these will be limited only to loading times. Playing on an older console will not be associated with lower visual quality. However, the differences in loading times could also affect the experience for PS5 owners - when competing against PS4 players, they'll have to wait patiently for them to join the game. During this time they'll be able to enjoy a leisurely drive, which could be a form of warm-up.

Yamauchi also commented on the driving model in Gran Turismo 7, which will evolve compared to the predecessor. It is expected to be much more natural. Top players, such as Igor Fraga and Mikail Hizal, are helping Polyphony Digital achieve this result. They share their impressions with the developers and point out the direction they should take.

Another element of the game that fills Yamauchi with pride is the dynamic weather and day/night system. It's supposed to be more than just a mechanism that randomly selects weather conditions during a race. Instead, the developers have designed an advanced simulation to guarantee the most realistic effects possible. These does not include only clearly noticeable phenomena, such as intense rain. In the game, we will also be able to feel the influence of air humidity or surface temperature on the behavior of the car. Unfortunately, the system will not work on all of the tracks in the game.

Gran Turismo 7 should also appeal to players who spend long hours customizing their cars. The new installment of the series will once again feature the ability to customize the look and performance of our cars.. We will make changes in the aerodynamics of the vehicles and replace many of their parts. We will also be able to spend a lot of time customizing the cars' paint schemes.

These customized cars can then be viewed in GT Café, which is somewhat new to the series. This is a special place where players will be able to learn more about their cars. In a sense, it will be a small museum of things automotive, where you can learn about their history or their impact on the industry or motorsport, or just to look at them up close. According to Yamauchi, this part of Gran Turismo 7 was developed specifically for car enthusiasts.

So all that remains is for us to wait patiently for the title's release and hope that the developer's enthusiasm is indeed justified. The release of the game is scheduled for March 4, 2022. It will launch on PS4 and PS5.
